The funnel
Contacts move through three stages, in order:target— added, no reply yet. This is where a contact starts, whether added manually, imported from a CSV, captured through an AnyCard, or discovered by a Customer Intelligence run.lead— responded. A contact advances here the first time they reply to outreach, whether that’s a rep marking it manually or an automated reply-detection webhook doing it for them.contact— converted. The relationship has become a customer (or however your organization defines a won relationship). Converting can also create an account and a deal in the same step, if the contact doesn’t already have them.
stage happens to be lead. Filtering by stage is how the product’s “Leads” and “Contacts” views are really the same list, viewed differently.
Disqualification is independent of stage. A contact can be flagged as disqualified — no longer worth pursuing — without losing its place in the funnel; requalifying just clears the flag. This keeps history intact: you don’t lose the fact that a contact had reached lead just because it’s currently disqualified.
Relationships
- A contact can be linked to an account (the company it belongs to) — directly, or as a result of converting.
- A contact can be linked to one or more deals, as part of the buying committee, with a role like “decision maker” or “champion.”
- A contact can have activities (calls, emails, meetings) logged against it directly, independent of any deal or account link.
Getting contacts in
Beyond creating them one at a time, AnyCRM supports:- CSV import — upload a file, map its columns to contact fields, and get an async job you can poll for progress and a downloadable annotated result.
- Enrichment — given a name, email, or LinkedIn URL, AnyCRM can look up additional detail (title, company, verified email) through third-party providers.
- AnyCard capture — a visitor sharing their info back through a digital business card becomes a contact automatically.
- Customer Intelligence — a research run can produce contacts as part of its output, linked back to the run that found them.
